Non Domestic Rates, also known as Business Rates is a system of collecting rates from commercial properties within the local authority area.
All non-domestic rates collected by Southampton City Council are forwarded to central government from where they are redistributed amongst all authorities.
Each commercial property is assessed by the Valuation Office Agency, given a Rateable Value (RV) and entered into the official rating list. This list is reviewed every five years with the next revaluation due to take place 1 April 2010.
There is an appeals process where by you can appeal against an entry in the list.
