Southampton rises to the challenge for Sport Relief.

The flagship event - Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile will take place in Southampton Mile Event Sunday 21 March.

Southampton Milers can choose to do 1,3, or 6 miles, so they can select the distance that is a challenge for them and make sure they get sponsored while they do it.

Sport Relief harnesses the power and passion of sport to change lives for the better. By doing sport, having fun and raising money, everyone can do good and feel good. Comic Relief spends the money raised to help vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives both at home in the UK and in the world's poorest countries.

Hula Hoops Hoopathon- be part of a world record attempt
Get involved in a Sport Relief first - helping to set a new world record!
The Hula Hoops Hoopathon is coming to Southampton - you can swivel your hips alongside people at all the Flagship Mile events across the whole of the UK. Together, you'll be helping to set the world record for the most people simultaneously hula-hooping! The record attempt starts promptly at 12 midday and all sites must hula hoop continuously for 2 mins. So arrive by 11am to sign the official World Record Attempt Log Book (under 18s will need a parent or guardian to sign the log book on the day) and take part in the warm up.

To enter the Hula Hoops Hoopathon, please click on 'Enter now' and follow the registration process for the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile. By registering, you will automatically be entered for both the Hoopathon and the Mile, as your entry fee entitles you to a place in both events. If you don't want to do the Mile, don't worry, you don't need to let us know - you can just do the Hoopathon on the day - but you still need to complete the registration process in full. After you have registered, you will receive an email and welcome pack confirming your entry into the Hoopathon, and your optional place in the Mile.

Volunteer at the event - we need you!
You do not have to donate just money to support the event - you could volunteer your time to either assist with the event organisation on the day or if you are part of a local band, dance troupe, or club you could come along and entertain the participants and spectators at the event.

Event Volunteers
As you can imagine the personnel needed on the day of the event is huge. The City Council's Events Team and Sports Development Team organise the event on behalf of Comic Relief and offer their time free of charge, but that is only 6 people and we need help.
We have to co-ordinate marshalling of the route, on the day registration, guidance and information to participants to make sure they are in the in the right place for their warm up and start, erect signage and banners, liaise with entertainers, give out goody bags and water at the finish line; the list is endless.
If you would like to donate to your time to assist on the day, please contact Lee Page in Sports Development on 023 8083 3689 or email lee.page@southampton.gov.uk for further details.

Donate your time to Entertain
We want everyone to have the best possible time when they go the distance at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile – and we need your help! We’re looking for acoustic musicians, singers, artists, sports instructors, MCs, family entertainers, street artists, dance troupes and anyone with any talent to come along and entertain thousands of Milers and spectators on the big day!
So if you would like to donate your time and talent to entertain at the Southampton Sport Relief Mile please contact Clare Forknell at Comic Relief on email c.forknell@comicrelief.com or on 020 7840 2513.
Not only is it a great chance for you to showcase your work to a warm, welcoming and local crowd – you’ll also be helping to change lives forever when you support Sport Relief 2010.

We can’t wait to hear from you!
